AUTHOR COACHING

Someone asked me the other day, "Why do you want to coach other writers?" Here's my answer:

  • Seventeen years.

  • Twenty novels.

  • Seven novellas.

  • A crap-ton of proposals.

  • Countless hours of editing, revising, and revising again.

  • Five major publishing houses.

  • Two agents.

  • Three genres.

  • Word count day after day, year after year, no matter what life has thrown at me.

  • Numerous awards and nominations.

  • Self-publishing success.

  • Enduring optimism.

I coach because I want my experience to serve others. I know that whatever challenges an author might face, I've probably faced them, too. Wherever an author might be stuck, I've probably been stuck there, too. A client's self-doubt and internal demons probably look a lot like the ones I've had to slay in my career. Coaching allows me to share my love of good storytelling tempered with a whole lot of real-world perspective. If you need a writing coach, please contact me and we can discuss your situation. I am accepting new clients.

We can work together in three ways.

1.   COME TO THE ADOBE COTTAGE WRITER'S RETREAT IN NEW MEXICO. Stay a week in a mountainside casita         designed for relaxation and word count. There, you will work one-on-one with me and my buddy Darynda               Jones, the author of the blockbuster Charley Davidson First Grave series.  For more information on our New             Mexico coaching and retreat packages, please visit:

2.  LET ME COME TO YOU THROUGH THE MAGIC OF TECHNOLOGY! We can collaborate through email, over the      phone, or via Skype or FaceTime. What is your next writing goal? Do you need to polish a contest entry or                agent/editor submission? Do you need to plot an entire novel, fix your character arc, or figure out how to                tighten your storytelling? Perhaps you need help with goal-setting, accountability, or process. I can assist you          with stand-alone coaching sessions or we can develop a flat-fee monthly coaching program.

  •  Stand-alone sessions cost $100 an hour plus the cost of reading and evaluating your work.

  •  Monthly coaching costs a flat fee of $1,000 a month. The flat fee includes an initial reading and evaluation of     your manuscript (up to 250 pages) plus four, one-hour coaching sessions.

3.  A-LA-CARTE MANUSCRIPT EDITING.  You can email me your manuscript. I will read it and write an editorial          evaluation. Then we can talk via phone, Skype, or FaceTime. The cost depends on the length of the manuscript      and the type of editing you request. For example, developmental editing (evaluating characterization, pace,            plot structure, voice, dialogue, and pacing) costs more than line editing (pointing out errors in word choice,            punctuation and grammar while making general suggestions about the story structure.) Please note that I am        not a professional copy editor. I know some great ones, however, and can hook you up if you wish.

If you'd like to learn more about the retreat or any of these coaching options, please click on the “contact” button at the top of the page. I’ll be in touch soon!

Happy Writing,

Susan
